Privacy Policy

Effective date: July 3, 2026

Overview

This Privacy Policy explains how Bobbr ("Bobbr," "we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and shares information when you use the Bobbr iOS app and the bobbr.app website (together, the "Service"). Bobbr is an independent app operated by Jack Lynch, its sole developer.

This policy applies to everyone who uses the Service. If you have questions about it or about your data, contact support@bobbr.app.

Information We Collect

We collect the following categories of information:

  • Account and sign-in information. Bobbr uses Sign in with Apple to create your account. We receive the Apple user identifier tied to your account, and the name and email address Apple shares with us (your email may be a private Apple relay address if you choose to hide your email).
  • Onboarding answers and preferences. During setup, we collect your answers to a short onboarding questionnaire, such as your fishing experience level, goals, preferred water type and fishing environments, and how you heard about Bobbr. We also store app preferences, such as your measurement units and default location-sharing setting.
  • Catch records. When you log a catch, we store the details you provide, including species, length and weight, notes, catch time, and, if you choose to include it, catch location.
  • Catch photos. If you attach a photo to a saved catch, we store that photo as part of the catch record.
  • Subscription status. We receive subscription and entitlement information from Apple and RevenueCat, such as which plan you have and whether it is currently active.
  • Website usage data. When you visit bobbr.app, analytics providers we use — PostHog and DataFast — collect standard usage data such as pages viewed, links clicked, and general device and browser information, using cookies or similar technology. This applies to the bobbr.app website only, separately from anything you do inside the iOS app.
  • Waitlist signups. If you join our early-access waitlist on bobbr.app, we collect your email address and any optional preferences you share, such as experience level or preferred water type.

We do not collect or store payment card numbers or other billing details — Apple processes all payments, and RevenueCat manages subscription status on our behalf.

Fish Identification (AI Photo Processing)

When you use Bobbr's camera-based fish identification, your photo is sent to our AI provider, OpenAI, to compare it against Bobbr's fish catalog and suggest a species. The result is always a suggestion for you to confirm or change — it never becomes a saved catch on its own.

We treat identification photos as temporary. We do not retain the photo itself once an identification attempt finishes, so if you do not go on to save a catch, the photo is gone and the attempt is not shown to you later. We do keep limited technical data about the attempt — such as when it happened, the confidence of the match, and its outcome — tied to your account, so we can operate and improve the feature.

If you save a catch with a photo, that photo is stored as part of your catch record, separately from the identification process described above.

How We Use Information

We use the information described above to:

  • Provide the Service, including logging catches, unlocking paid features, and letting you sign in from a new device without losing your data;
  • Run fish identification, by sending your photo to OpenAI and matching the result against Bobbr's fish catalog;
  • Respond to support requests and, if you joined the waitlist, send launch and product updates;
  • Understand how Bobbr's website and app are used, and fix problems; and
  • Comply with the law and enforce our Terms of Service.

How We Share Information

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for third-party advertising. We share information only with the service providers who help us run Bobbr, and only as needed for them to do that work:

  • Apple — Sign in with Apple, and payment processing for subscriptions.
  • RevenueCat — to process and track subscription and entitlement status.
  • OpenAI — to process fish-identification photos and return a suggested species.
  • Cloud infrastructure providers — S3-compatible object storage for photos, and hosted database and API infrastructure, to run the Service.
  • Analytics providers (PostHog and DataFast) — website usage analytics for bobbr.app, as described above.

We may also share information if required by law, to protect the rights, property, or safety of Bobbr or our users, or as part of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, in which case we would notify you.

Data Retention and Account Deletion

We keep your account data for as long as your account is active. You can delete your account and its data at any time from within the app (Settings), or by emailing support@bobbr.app. Either way, we will delete your saved catches, catch photos, onboarding answers, and preferences.

Fish-identification photos are never retained past the identification attempt itself — see "Fish Identification (AI Photo Processing)" above.

After you delete your account, we may keep limited records, such as billing and subscription history, where we need to for legal, accounting, fraud-prevention, or audit purposes.

Children's Privacy

Bobbr is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, contact support@bobbr.app and we will delete it.

Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Your Choices

You can review and update your onboarding answers and preferences in the app at any time. You can request access to, a copy of, or deletion of your data, or ask us questions about this policy, by emailing support@bobbr.app.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the effective date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, notify you in the app. Continuing to use the Service after a change means you accept the updated policy.
