The Allis shad is a migratory fish found in freshwater, brackish, and saltwater environments across Europe and parts of Africa. It feeds mainly on planktonic crustaceans and small schooling fish in estuaries and at sea. This species is valued as a game fish for its fighting ability and seasonal runs.
Where they live
Found in freshwater, brackish estuaries, and coastal saltwaters of the Atlantic and Mediterranean regions, including parts of Europe and Africa. They migrate into rivers for spawning and dwell between 10 and 300 meters deep.
