The Atlantic bigeye is a nocturnal predator found mainly around coral reefs and rocky bottoms. It forms small groups near the seabed and feeds on a variety of small fishes, crustaceans, and polychaetes. This species is valued as a game fish for its fighting ability.

Where they live

Inhabits coral reefs and rocky substrates in the Atlantic and Mediterranean Seas, dwelling at depths from 10 to 200 meters. Usually found near the bottom in small aggregations.
