The Brazilian electric ray is a small, bottom-dwelling ray known for its ability to generate electric shocks. It buries itself in sandy or muddy coastal waters, often hiding with only its eyes visible. This nocturnal species moves into shallow bays at night to hunt a variety of small prey.

Where they live

Found in coastal sandy or muddy areas from shallow waters down to 43 meters, including sandy shorelines and occasionally near coral reefs in the Atlantic, Caribbean, and Gulf of Mexico.
