The Caspian lamprey is a non-parasitic, eel-like fish found in freshwater and brackish waters of Europe and Asia. It spends its early life as a larva buried in sandy or clay sediments, feeding on detritus and algae. Adults can grow up to about 55 cm in length and inhabit shallow to moderately deep waters.
