The Common bluestripe snapper is a colorful saltwater fish often found in large groups near coral reefs. It is a nocturnal predator that feeds on various small fish, crustaceans, and cephalopods. Juveniles live in seagrass beds, while adults frequent shallow and deeper reef slopes up to 265 meters.

Found in coral reefs across the Atlantic, Pacific, and Indian Oceans. Prefers shallow lagoons and outer reef slopes, forming large aggregations. Juveniles inhabit seagrass beds near patch reefs.
