The European plaice is a flatfish known for its distinctive orange spots and smooth skin. It is a bottom-dweller found mostly on mixed seabeds, with older fish living in deeper waters. It exhibits homing behavior and feeds primarily by hunting small shellfish and worms.

Where they live

Found in brackish and saltwater from shallow bathing beaches to depths of 200 meters across the Atlantic and Mediterranean. Prefers mixed seabeds and deeper areas as it matures.
