The Fourlined tonguesole is a flatfish with an elongated body that lives on muddy and sandy bottoms. It is a predator feeding mainly on small benthic creatures like shrimp, crabs, worms, and other invertebrates. This species is found in both brackish and saltwater environments across the Pacific and Indian Oceans.

Inhabits sandy and muddy substrates from shallow waters down to 400 meters in brackish and saltwater areas of the Pacific and Indian Oceans.
