The gafftopsail sea catfish is a strong, elongated fish found in brackish and saltwater environments of the Atlantic, Caribbean, and Gulf of Mexico. It grows up to 69 cm long and fights well, making it a popular game fish. Juveniles feed mainly on organic matter, while adults prey on small fish and crustaceans.
Where they live
Found in shallow to moderate depths up to 50 m in brackish and marine waters, including estuaries and coastal zones of the Atlantic, Caribbean, and Gulf of Mexico. Tolerates a wide range of salinities and warm temperatures.
