The Greenback horse mackerel is a pelagic schooling fish found mostly on continental shelves in the Pacific and Indian Oceans. It shifts from midwater and surface waters to near the sea bed during colder seasons. Juveniles often inhabit coastal and estuarine areas.
Where they live
Inhabits brackish and saltwater continental shelf regions down to about 300 meters depth. Prefers water temperatures below 16°C and forms pelagic schools most of the year.
