The Hawaiian grouper is a prized game fish known for its robust size and powerful fight. It inhabits a wide depth range around Hawaii, hunting fish and invertebrates. This species is often called Hawaiian sea bass or black grouper and is valued for both sport and table fare.
Where they live
Found in Hawaiian saltwater areas from shallow reefs at 5 meters to deep waters down to 380 meters. Prefers rocky bottoms and coral reef structures in the Pacific region.
