The Kumakuma is a massive freshwater catfish native to South America, known for its elongated body and impressive size, reaching up to 3.6 meters and weighing as much as 200 kilograms. It is a solitary, mainly diurnal predator that hunts smaller fish and other macrofauna. This species is prized by anglers seeking a challenging freshwater game fish.
Where they live
Found in freshwater and brackish waters of South America, the Kumakuma inhabits river systems with temperatures of 24-30°C, pH between 5 and 9.5, and moderate alkalinity. It typically occurs at elevations of 150-200 meters and prefers solitary life during daylight hours.
