The Lake Tanganyika sprat is a small, elongated freshwater fish native to Lake Tanganyika in Africa. It forms very large schools and performs daily vertical migrations following plankton movements. Juveniles stay nearshore, while adults inhabit deeper pelagic zones during the day.

Where they live

Found in Lake Tanganyika, this species inhabits deep pelagic waters between 70 and 95 meters during the day, rising to 8-15 meters at night. Juveniles prefer shallower, nearshore areas.
