The ocean pout is an elongated benthic fish found in northern Atlantic waters. It feeds on diverse bottom-dwelling invertebrates and small fishes. Although not a game fish, it plays a key role in the marine ecosystem.

Where they live

Lives on or near the seabed in brackish and saltwater along North America's Atlantic coast, typically from shallow waters down to 388 meters deep.
