The Ploughfish is an elongated, saltwater fish found in cold southern oceans. It spawns in September near Adélie Land, with young developing through spring and autumn. This species feeds on various smaller fishes and invertebrates.

Found in saltwater habitats across the Atlantic, Pacific, and Indian Oceans, inhabiting depths from the surface down to 550 meters; spawns around September in southern Antarctic regions.
