The Pond smelt is a small, elongated fish commonly found in freshwater and brackish environments. It ascends rivers to spawn in spring and shifts from inshore to offshore waters seasonally. Although not a typical game fish, it plays a role in local aquatic ecosystems.
Where they live
Inhabits ponds, lakes, and streams, often in middle and surface waters up to 10 meters deep. Found across North America, Asia, Europe, and the Pacific, including brackish and some saltwater areas.
