The Portuguese dogfish is a deepwater shark found mainly in the western Mediterranean and Atlantic. It has an elongated body and lives on continental slopes and abyssal plains. This species feeds on various fishes, cephalopods, and occasionally cetacean meat.

Inhabits deep saltwater continental slopes and abyssal plains in the Mediterranean and Atlantic, typically at depths from 128 to 3700 meters with temperatures of 5-13°C.
