The quillback rockfish is a solitary predator that inhabits rocky bottoms and reefs along the Pacific coast. It is known for its distinctive orange spots and can grow up to about 61 cm. This species hovers close to the structure, rarely venturing far from cover.

Found along rocky reefs and bottoms in Pacific North American waters, usually solitary and near cover from shallow waters down to 274 meters deep.
