Rüppell's scaldback is a small flatfish found in the Atlantic and Mediterranean Sea. It feeds on small fishes and invertebrates and spawns in the autumn. It has a fusiform body shape and can grow up to 15 cm long.

Lives in saltwater from shallow waters down to about 900 meters depth in the Atlantic and Mediterranean Sea.
