The Scamp is a medium-large grouper known for its elongated, fusiform body and is prized by anglers for its fighting ability. It inhabits deeper waters along reefs and rocky bottoms mostly in the Atlantic and Gulf of Mexico. This predator hunts a variety of marine creatures making it a sought-after gamefish.
Where they live
Found in brackish and saltwater environments, primarily in the Atlantic, Caribbean, and Gulf of Mexico, Scamp groupers typically dwell between 30 and 100 meters deep near reefs and rocky structures.
