The shadow driftfish is a small, slender saltwater fish found in the Indian and Pacific Oceans. It prefers mid-depth waters and feeds selectively on small crustaceans and fish. This species is not targeted as a game fish due to its modest size.

Inhabits tropical and subtropical midwater zones from 180 to 550 meters deep in the Indian and Pacific Oceans.
