The silver catfish is a sleek freshwater fish found in Africa that changes its diet seasonally, feeding mainly on insects during the wet season and fish during the dry season. It is a moderately sized predator with a fusiform body. Known also as butter catfish or silver barbel, it inhabits waters up to 60 meters deep.

Freshwater habitats across Africa, living from surface levels down to 60 meters deep. Diet shifts with seasons, reflecting the availability of insects and smaller fish.
