The Southern opah, also known as Moonfish, is a deep-bodied, large saltwater fish found across the Atlantic, Pacific, and Indian Oceans. It primarily feeds on squid and fishes and is known for its distinctive rounded shape. Despite its size, it is not commonly targeted as a game fish.
Where they live
Found in temperate to cold deep waters ranging from 50 to 485 meters depth in the Atlantic, Pacific, and Indian Oceans. They often inhabit midwater zones where their prey like squid and small fish are abundant.
