The Tanganyika lates, also known as giant perch, is a large predatory freshwater fish native to Lake Tanganyika in Africa. It grows up to 2 meters long and weighs up to 100 kilograms. These solitary fish hunt smaller fish like sardines and benthic cichlids, often aggregating in pelagic zones at night to feed.
Where they live
Found in Lake Tanganyika, adults inhabit inshore areas and deep rocky grounds. They are sedentary and solitary but form groups when hunting pelagic prey like clupeid fish during nightly migrations.
