The Yellowfin grouper is a striking saltwater predator known for inhabiting rocky and coral reefs. It primarily feeds on reef fishes and squids, growing up to one meter in length and nearly 18.5 kilograms in weight. This species is prized by anglers for its fighting ability and is found in the tropical Atlantic, Caribbean, and Gulf of Mexico regions.
Where they live
Found in rocky and coral reefs from shallow turtle grass beds to depths of around 137 meters across the Caribbean, Gulf of Mexico, and adjacent Atlantic coastal areas. Juveniles prefer shallow seagrass habitats, while adults roam reef structures.
